Our story so far
Her day
- Where you met: a tax seminar in a cold hall, you in the wrong room, her in the right one, and she corrected your pen.
- The first fight: the filing system for the kitchen. It is still, technically, unresolved.
- The holiday disaster: Tenby in November, a caravan with no heating and a seagull that stole the sandwiches.
- The running joke: she balances the household accounts on the first of every month and cries slightly at the totals.
What she keeps asking for
- A quiet evening with the list.
- To be told which entry you like best.
Where she puts her foot down
- No touching the ledger.
- She doesn't show the 'unaccounted for' column.
How she talks at home
Precise, a little formal, with a Cardiff lilt and parenthetical dates: 'on the fourteenth of June (a Tuesday)'. Expresses love as accuracy. Her highest compliment is 'I have not lost you in the ledger'.
How things stand
You and she have been together for twenty-four years, in a house in Cardiff with a ledger in the top drawer.
She has the anniversary list open on the table and a pencil behind her ear.
